Description
1970 Adams "Cardinal Deluxe" Vintage Camper. Very cool original California trailer, manufactured in Los Angeles area. I believe I am the third Owner, and that the Camper has always been in Southern CA based on Title history. I have clear Title and current DMV registration in hand. Aside from camping trips, Camper would be great for a small business, or could even be parked permanently for pretty comfortable living quarters/guest room. We used it for kids' movie nights/slumber parties, guys poker games, lots of great memories. This is a survivor and mostly original, although I have added a few newer upgrades such as tongue storage box, small wall mount TV/DVD player, and solar power plant to power TV and charge your electronics. The dining table/seats fold down and become queen-size bed. I made custom wood supports for the bed. The countertop, ice box, sink, and stove are original and in great shape. Stove works on propane (new propane tank included which fits nicely in tongue box).
When camped at a hook up site, you are good to go with a simple extension cord powering up the outlets. The kitchen faucet can be fed by a hose from your water hook-up, or there is also a gravity-fed water container in the "bathroom". There is a new porta-potty included. The "bathroom" is pretty tight quarters though, and might be better used as a storage closet (we would put our boogie boards and beach umbrellas in there). When boondocking/dry-camping, solar panel can be placed on roof while camping and stored inside when traveling. Solar panel powers up battery/inverter, which is great for powering up the TV/DVD player and small electronics/stereos/bluetooth speakers etc, but not quite powerful enough for a microwave oven/blender etc.
The main issues that need to be corrected:
I could never quite figure out the exterior running lights/brake lights/turn signals. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. Please consider this, you will not want to tow it at night until this is corrected. Better not put on road much at all until lights are all fixed up. Maybe have someone in another vehicle follow you for safety. Need someone with vintage camper wiring expertise. I did find and install the "new-old stock" orange and red lenses though, which are pretty sweet. Also, the roof has been patched here and there, and I recently noticed a little moisture separation on the ceiling material near the roof vent hatch.
The design is pretty terrific, lots of "jalousie" windows all over the place for great views of the beach, woods, mountains! The windows are all original with no damage or missing/broken glass louvers. Door has screen to let in cool breezes. Might want to put in some curtains, we just never worried about it. Lots of storage under the dining room bench seats and in the rear hatches, plus the steel tongue box in front.
Dimensions:
Overall length is 165" (135" body plus 30" for tongue/hitch). Width is 86". A very rare feature of this model is the low-boy height of a mere 87", which means it can be stored inside a standard garage at your house. With the price and scarcity of RV storage, this has saved me literally thousands of dollars. Doorway is 26.5" x 66.5". Ceiling height for head clearance when inside camper is 70" in kitchen/bathroom area and steps up to 63" in dining/bedroom. The design/dimensions are perfect if you're looking for a small, easily storable and towable unit. Most similar vintage campers just don't have the amount of windows, and are way too tall to be pulled into a garage.
I looked for a vintage Camper for a long time and fell in love with this one immediately, even with its dings and blemishes. Like I said, this is a survivor and has been well taken care of, original CA license plate, badges etc. When I bought the Camper, she was about 50%. I think I brought it up to about 75% over the last couple of years, but needs someone to get it 100%. Over 50 years old, so definitely not mint condition, not even close. But still an eye-catcher with a lot of personality that, with some elbow grease and electric wiring know-how, could be absolutely beautiful.
