)
Condition - crisp original Fine, usual dividend stamps
As Douglas says this is strictly speaking an English Issue but the notes
were also used extensively in Berwickshire, thus the dual listing.
Some of
the partners - of which there were probably four
including Thomas & William
Batson
- were also whalers, which appears to have been the cause of the
failure! John Langhorn had been a partner in Mowbray & Co also of Berwick
& Newcastle, which merged with this bank in 1817. The commission was
evidently against Batson, Wilson & Langhorn however. William Berry appears
to have left sometime before 1830, John Wilson became  a partner c.1829.
Dividends of 10s 3d in the £ were eventually paid.
