There are no marks or blemishes on this note even under ultra violet light and I am completely unsure of why this note was not given EPQ!
There are only 3 notes currently graded as uncirculated out of a total of only 5 notes by PMG. This note being the lone second highest graded in the population report and exceptional as such!
A very rare first prefix experimental issue. These run of notes has only 3 prefix's
with a run of 1 million notes per prefix
totalling only 3 million notes for this catalog number.
The three prefix's used were A01N (First), A05N and A06N (Last). These notes are identifiable by their prefix but more specifically by the tiny letter "R" (which stands for "Research") printed on the back of the note at the bottom just above the "BANK OF ENGLAND". There are also four different types of this letter R with the full letter R appearing on lower numbered versions of the
A01N
prefix. See the detailed image of this notes "R".
These notes were made to test a new type of printing press which was a reel-fed printer developed by the printing company Masson, Scott, Thrissell Engineering Ltd. of Bristol, England.
It is believed
that the missing prefix numbers A02N, A03N and A04N were never printed and none have ever been seen or recorded in 60 years.
These notes are very rarely encountered and never in this type of grade. First and last prefix notes of Great Britain currency are highly sort after by collectors of this country.
