Description
THIS IS AN ORIGINAL 1935 BOWLUS ROAD CHIEF THAT I HAVE OWNED FOR APPROXIMATELY TEN YEARS. IT WAS PURCHASED FROM SALVAGE YARD BY A CALIFORNIA OWNER / ARTIST BACK IN THE SEVENTIES WHO USED IT AS A GUEST ROOM IN HIS BACK YARD. THE REDWOOD CEILING AND VARIOUS INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR EMBELLISHMENTS WERE DONE BY HIM. IT REMAINS PRETTY MUCH NOW AS IT WAS THEN.THIS IS A VERY RARE TRAILER THAT WAS PRODUCED IN VERY LIMITED NUMBERS BETWEEN 1934-1936 BY HAWLEY BOWLUS. OF APPROXIMATELY 80 EVER PRODUCED, ONLY ABOUT 40 ARE THOUGHT TO HAVE SURVIVED.
THESE WOULD GENERALLY BE CONSIDERED TO BE THE VERY FIRST TRAILERS BUILT FROM ALUMINUM. THEY PRECEDE THE EARLIEST AIRSTREAM CLIPPERS AND ARE CONSIDERED TO BE "THE ORIGIN OF THE SPECIES".
JOHN LONG'S BOOK BY THAT TITLE PROVIDES A THOROUGH OVERVIEW OF THE BOWLUS HISTORY.
THIS IS A TRAILER DESERVING OF A COMPLETE AND THOROUGH RESTORATION.
THE TRAILER IS NOT ROADWORTHY, AND WILL REQUIRE A FLATBED FOR TRANSPORT. IT IS UNTITLED, AND SOLD WITH BILL OF SALE ONLY. NO WARRANTY IS EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED.
TERMS OF PICK UP CAN BE ARRANGED TO SUIT BUYER'S NEEDS. I AM HAPPY TO ASSIST IN ANY WAY POSSIBLE.
A 00.00 NON REFUNDABLE DEPOSIT IS REQUIRED OF WINNING BIDDER AT CONCLUSION OF AUCTION.
FULL PAYMENT OF BALANCE IS DUE WITHIN SEVEN DAYS, AND PRYOR TO PICK UP.
TRAILER IS FOR SALE LOCALLY, AND THIS AUCTION MAY BE ENDED AT ANY TIME.
